10 Great Reasons to be an MPI Member

MPI Professional Educational Conference - North America, February 2 - 5, 2008, Houston, TX.

Aloha kakou,
It's been an exciting first quarter for the Aloha Chapter.
We began with the World Education Congress (WEC) in Montreal, Canada. The Spirit of Aloha was evident in Montreal with close to one-third of our members in attendance. The theme of this year's conference "Connect Yourself" was carried throughout, with members connecting with one another at a variety of events. I was so thrilled to see so many of our members at WEC, connecting and sharing aloha with fellow MPI members globally at the various educational and networking events.
Members and guests who attended our educational luncheon in September at the Hilton were entertained and enlightened by Louie Gravance, former Disney University trainer whose "Service with Magic" presentation drove home the concept of keeping every employee "emotionally connected" to their purpose. A big mahalo to Executive Womens International (EWI) who partnered with us to bring Louie Gravance to present to our two organizations.
In October we held a joint networking event with the Hawaii Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association (HHSMA) at the `Iolani Palace, one of Hawaii's greatest gifts from the past. Guided tours by The Friends of `Iolani Palace were offered and those who attended learned the history of the beautifully restored palace, which was the official residence of the last two Hawaiian monarchs, King Kalakaua and Queen Lili'oukalani. Events of the evening also included a networking reception and ghost tours of downtown Honolulu. We were also pleased to present a donation to the Hawai'i Food Bank in the amount of $1,140.
Mahalo nui loa to EWI and HHSMA for their partnership. We will continue to look for opportunities for joint ventures in order to offer quality events to our members.
We also welcomed 8 new members to the Aloha Chapter. Click here to see who has recently joined our 'ohana and please extend your aloha when you see them at our next event.
Mahalo to all the members who are volunteering their time to serve on a committee. The success of the chapter all revolves around the work and commitment of our members. Click here to see how you can become involved.
We hope you are enjoying the new look and design of the newsletter with its enhanced interactive links to various events, sections of our website, and photo galleries. We are always looking for photos, so if you have any to share from recent MPI events, please feel free to email them to me.
BUILDING A RICH GLOBAL MEETING MPI Headquarters has been busy sharing the new vision to Build a Rich Global Meeting Industry Community, along with its four strategic imperatives:
1) Evolve from Association to Global Community 2) Re-imagine Business Relationships with Chapters 3) Elevate the Member Conversation and Experience 4) Build a Great Organization
"In an increasingly complex and global industry, our vision at MPI is to connect more members to more opportunities by delivering new levels of valuable programs," states Bruce MacMillan, C.A., president & CEO, MPI.
MPI has nearly 23,000 members, with 68 chapter communities in 20 countries. As economies grow and new ones emerge at an astonishing pace, the need for people to connect is more critical than ever. MPI continues to identify ways for members to define their participation in response to marketplace opportunities and their individual needs, including "co-creation" of relevant high-value programs and services.
MPI is evolving to deliver more value and a higher level of member satisfaction by connecting more members to more opportunities for greater success.
In this highly technological advanced world that we now live in, tools have become available that you can either benefit from by becoming engaged or not benefit from by ignoring them. I must admit, like most baby boomers, I've been ignoring them for a while. Realizing that I need to embrace it rather than fight it, I attended a session at WEC entitled "How to Make the Most of the MPI Website". It was amazing to learn how much members can benefit from it. That said, I encourage you to visit the MPI website, www.mpiweb.org. Not only has it taken on a new look, it is much more interactive with blogs, wikis, message boards, and other tools that are available to members and the meeting industry community. Take a moment to update your personal page, you'll never know when another member will have a need and the information on your personal page may just serve that need.
Lastly, in an effort to elevate the member conversation and experience, we will be taking our next educational event out of the normal setting of the meeting room to the vast ocean floor off the shores of Waikiki. The Atlantis Submarine tour will offer incredible education as well as networking and business opportunities. Click here for more information on this unique upcoming program.
Let's continue our work together to create an exciting year, with all of us working together, with Aloha and Lokahi.
With warmest aloha,

Edie Hafdahl CMP, CTC
