President's Message

As we say goodbye to 2008, I would like to thank all of you for your involvement and efforts to make the MPI – Aloha Chapter a success.

As a Chapter, we are offering new and exciting educational speakers who are able to bring topics that are relevant to all in the meetings industry.  As a result we have seen our attendance at the luncheons grow to higher levels which offers all involved more networking opportunities.

In an effort to solidify our commitment to the community, we were recently able to donate a block of tickets for the University of Hawaii vs. the Idaho Vandals football game to the Special Olympics of Hawaii organization.  The Chapter was able to throw a tailgate party prior to the game which was a great opportunity for all involved to network with colleagues and peers in the industry.  The game was fun for all with the win earning the team a spot in the upcoming Sheraton Hawaii Bowl vs. the University of Notre Dame.

Moving forward into 2009, we as meetings professionals in Hawaii will have to set ourselves apart from the competition in popular and emerging destinations from around the world.  I would like to ask all of you in Hawaii to take time to rediscover our destination in paradise.  Experience and learn more about the history and attractions of each island and once again fall in love with this destination of Hawaii.  Go beyond selling room rates and F&B minimums and create excitement about our Islands.  Tell a story about the amazing sunsets and the fireworks show that you experienced from a sailboat on a Friday evening.  Talk about the beautiful rainbows and waterfalls that touch our lives daily.  If we as professionals take time to discuss what is special about each of our Islands, planners from the mainland will remember why Hawaii is still considered one of the most exotic and exciting destinations to reward their clients with.

As we discuss the many reasons why a planner should bring programs to Hawaii, always remember that there is much to be said about the Aloha Spirit which is alive in all of us, should we choose to share it with others.  People from around the world are captivated by all things from Hawaii.

In 2009 we will face many challenges that will help us come together as a destination.  It is up to us as meeting professionals to help planners and decision makers understand that Aloha is thriving in paradise and that there are so many reasons why they should discover our Islands.

Wishing you all a happy holiday season and much success in 2009.

With Warmest Aloha,
Randy Clark
